A week after suffering a fainting spell, singer Amy Winehouse has been diagnosed with the lung disease emphysema. The condition was likely caused by her smoking drugs and cigarettes. The singer's father, Mitch Winehouse, told England's Sunday Mirror that his 24-year-old daughter has an early stage of the disease.

"Doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her," he told the Mirror. "She's got emphysema — it's in its early stages, but had it gone on for another month, they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there like an old person with a mask on her face, struggling to breathe... With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes, her lungs are all gunked up. There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She's got 70 percent lung capacity."

Mitch Winehouse added that the recent hospitalization and the current treatment his daughter is getting for her battle with drugs could help save her life. "If she doesn't go back to drugs, then she can lead this magnificent life," he said. "We are praying that that's what Amy really wants. She seems resolute."

Her father also noted that there is no medical reason why his daughter shouldn't be able to perform her scheduled shows at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebration on Friday and the U.K.'s Glastonbury festival on Saturday. "If she hadn't done recent shows in Moscow and Portugal, she could have been dead by now," he said. "She abstains and regulates her drug use when she has to do a show."

Amy sang at Nelson Mandela's Birthday concert tonight in London. I saw it on You Tube, she did good!! Maybe she's not at death's door after all!

it makes me sad that she's willing to hurt herself with drugs, but I find myself pulling up songs of hers on youtube once in a while

they said her lungs were scared from crack! she has more strentgh than she realizes i bet. ...we all do. ...hopefully she will over come the devil. ...he is a fast manipulator and i rebuke Satan in the name of Jesus ALWAYS.

It's kinda hard to feel sorry for her, some of the things she does is pathetic, but she does have an amazing voice and great music.

She does things because drugs are calling the shots in her life right now...Its really sad to see someone in the grips of addiction like this. Hopefully she will continue to seek treatment until it works for her. Get well Amy
