Info on tour (Incase you haven’t heard)
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, whose 'Raising Sand' album has emerged as one of the past year’s major critical and word-of-mouth sales success stories, will begin an extensive US and European tour April 20 with a brief run of dates in the mid-South. The two lauded musicians will then embark on an 11 date tour of Europe in May. With a band led by 'Raising Sand' producer T-Bone Burnett, they will be performing songs together onstage from 'Raising Sand,' as well as other songs from their careers. Here’s my review (short story, I should say) The concert was at the Memorial Auditorium in my home town of Chatt, TN so no driving for this one. YAY! The show sold out. (I’m not surprised) I got tickets as soon as they went on sell.. (Front Orchestra Row U) like 20 rows back from the stage. By the end of the night, we were able to a little get closer. It was reserved seating.. NO cameras where allowed (I HATE that ****!!!). I still chanced it and brought my camera with.. I wasn’t gonna miss snapping a pic of Robert & Allison. The show started promptly at 8:00 pm. We had just sat down when the lights went dim. The opening act was Sharon Little (w/ Scot Sax). I’d never hear of her/them.. They said she’s from Tennessee. Sharon said her 1st album, “Perfect Time for a Breakdown”, is set to come out this May. They played about a 30 minute set. I liked her a lot! She’s gotta bluesy folk sound w/ a hint of rock. She wore this long black dress w/ red belt and a black bandana (gypsy style). At one point, she mentioned that she and Scot were afraid to fly so they’d been traveling by train everywhere! I didn’t get a pic of her b/c the camera police where out and I didn’t wanna risk loosing my camera just yet. Here’s her mySpace if you wanna ck her out.. Sharon Little NOW, onto the REAL good stuff! The stage getup wasn’t very elaborate. Simple stage lights, musical equipment and curtain backdrop. Let the music speak for itself, ya know. I like it that way. Around 9:00 pm the instrumental music stops, the lights go dim again, the audience is going crazy w/ anticipation and then you see the band walk on stage. The band gears up and begins playing the 1st song.. Allison walks out on the left side of the stage and Robert came out on the right. Allison wore this light and airy, low cut, backless cream colored dress that had some fringe decoration. Depending on the lighting, you could see the silhouette of her body. Needless to say, my husband liked it A LOT! LOL Her hair was slightly pulled up w/ some strains of hair loosely falling down the sides and back and she had on some kick *** high hill boots. Robert was wearing a pair of jeans w/ boots, a white loose button down shirt that was un-tucked and a black vest. His hair was typical Robert style, all wild and crazy.. They both looked great! Their microphones stood side by side on the stage. After the song was finish, Robert addressed the audience. His accent was ADORABLE! He mentioned that he liked Chattanooga, “lots of trees, beautiful scenery..”.. He said, “and people think England is pretty…. mmmm” then smiled.. Someone in the audience yelled loudly in approval (more so than the rest of us) and he said, “I like that too!” LOL Then, he said this is some “backwoods ****” and they kicked into Black Dog (Allison and Robert style)! OMG, it was unbelievable!!! Robert’s was ON! And, I have never seen this side of Allison before in my life! She CAN rock people! Robert had the crowd participate on the “Ah yeah, Ah yeah, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”. It was FANTASTIC! Allison isn’t much of a shaker, she’s got her little groove she does.. But I so enjoyed watchin her play that fiddle (on several songs)! Robert on the other hand, was jammin! He would grab the microphone stand and move it around.. shake his head, move his arms and really get into the music. It’s like he was takin you too a Zepplin show for just a moment, ya know? It was a trip! All very surreal.. The have real good chemistry on stage.. doin little hand moments and makin faces, whatnot. During songs that Allison and Robert didn’t sing together or each have a part in, the other would just kinda step to the side. During Allison’s “solo”, she introduces the bass player and guitarist then the three of them perform a gospel song. She also takes a moment to say that her parents are in the audience, introduces them and has them stand up, which was very sweet. Later, Robert would introduce the rest of the band. They mixed the show w/ some gospel, bluegrass, some Zeppelin and played their ENTIRE new album, Rising Sand. - Black Dog (mentioned above) - When the Levee Breaks - I gotta woman (Hey Hey What Can I Do) - Allison’s gospel song (name ???) - Down To The River To Pray (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) Robert and two others did backing vocals w/ her.. For those that don’t know, T-Bone produced the soundtrack to that movie. At one point, Allison and Robert hand the stage off to T-Bone Burnett (the guy who put this album together) and he sang two songs. He said he had been in Chattanooga before; he liked Lookout Mountain and thought that was a cool name. Someone yelled out “roll a doobie” and he replied “you got one?” LMFAOOO He said that they were headed to Louisiana after this show and wanted to play some Creole for us. Robert came out and played what looked like an ES Gibson electric guitar and provided some backup vocals. I love it!!! T-Bone is definitely one cool cat! Their last song was “Gone, Gone, Gone (Done Moved On)”… right before they started to play it, the backdrop changed into these long silver streamers (like in the video).. The changing lights gave it a really cool effect, but that was basically the only stage theatrics to the entire show. After the song was over, they took a bow and exited the stage. The audience wanted more and we got it!!! As they were coming back out onto the stage, I saw a good spot several rows up and told my hubby to follow my lead WOOOHOOO They sang three more songs before ending the show. The show was over right at 11:00 so they played for TWO hours! All I can say is WOW! That show was SUPERCALAFRAGALISTIC! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ click here ~ LMFP P!RATE MAF!A 8/16/02 Memphis TN (ELVIS 25th Anniversary Concert @ Pyramid) 7/31/03 Atlanta GA (Chastain Park) 8/02/03 Nashville TN (Ryman) 8/05/03 Tunica MS (Grand Casino) 5/01/05 Memphis TN (Tom Lee Park) 5/02/05 Nashville TN* (Cannery) 11/19/05 Fort Wayne IN (Pierre's) 10/11/06 Nashville TN* (City Hall) 10/14/06 Robinsonville MS (Horseshoe Casino) 8/16/07 Memphis TN (ELVIS 30th Anniversary Concert @ FedEx Forum) |
