I'm not sure of the date but it sounds like the early to mid 70's. It's a fanstastic rendition of this song because Elvis' laugh is ADORABLE and VERY contageous. I crack up everytime I hear it. He was laughing because he was singing "Do you gaze at your bald head, and wish you had hair"? So you can hear some guy in the audience saying YA and something else. Also, while Elvis is laughing the band and backup singers kept going, without missing a beat. It's hysterical!!!

THIS IS MY FAVE!!!! I listen to it all the time and laugh my head off every time! He had an incredible laugh.
It was I think 1971 or 70? I can check and get back to u. What had happened, was that, yes as Stacy said some guy yelled something out to him, but at same time he took off his toupee which totally set Elvis off.... Yeah, I've heard that, too, on Sirius. Also they said that Charlie Hodge (I think it was him) kept making faces and funny gestures that kept Elvis laughing.

Elvis did have a sexy laugh! I love this version of Lonesome. I too crack up everytime I hear it! It is hysterical how the band and backup singers just keep singing along without ever missing a beat! Elvis was, still and will always be the best! (yeah and we ALL know his daughter is pretty incredible herslf)

I agree, Quinn. One of the things about Elvis that's so compelling is there was often a sense of sadness about him. That clip always made me feel a bit uncomfortable. His light and his dark.

he was so silly ive heard ...from memphis peeps ...sometimes he would make up different words and crack himself up ....thats why the colonel ?urnel or whatever (cant sp) gave E that big Ham in that famous pic. ...coz he used to call him a ham. ...meanin (silly you know) ...atleast thats what i heard...

It was done around `74 or `75. The story behind it is in Charlie Hodge`s book, "Me `N Elvis." FUNNY story.
Elvis was singing the song when he looked out into the audience and saw this woman and he pictured how she would look if she were bald. He sang the line about the bald head while envisioning her with no hair.
