Many Pink Floyd fans' passions were re-ignited when the group came together to perform at Live 8 last summer, and now lead singer and guitarist David Gilmour will offer his first studio recordings since Floyd's 1994 album The Division Bell. Gilmour's third solo album, On An Island, will be released March 7 on Columbia Records. Not only does the music bear a comparison to Pink Floyd, but the album features esteemed guests like David Crosby, Graham Nash, Jools Holland and Pink Floyd's Richard Wright on Hammond organ. The CD also marks Gilmour's debut on the saxophone.

"It's my best and most personal work," Gilmour says of On An Island. "Making it with my musician friends has been a positive experience on so many levels."

The album includes 10 tracks, and the first single, "On An Island," will impact radio on February 7. A tour starts in Europe in March, hits the U.S. in April and returns to the U.K. at the end of May. Gilmour's touring band will consist of Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera, keyboardist Wright, bassist Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd, Roxy Music), keyboardist Jon Carin and drummer Steve DiStanislao, who recently played with Crosby & Nash. The set list is likely to combine Gilmour's favorite Pink Floyd tracks with songs from On An Island, according to his Web site.
