A friend on another board pointed out to me, that the people making the argument sped up petty's song to prove it even more. Even though they are similar lyrically and in the chords, they DID speed it up. He posted a tom petty myspace link with Mary Jane's last dance on it so you could hear the original recording of it.

It IS slower than when those two people on that audio link were playing.

ok now ive heard it a few times and know how to play last dance on accoustic or electric ..whatever lol...and yes the timing and chords are the same ..and the beg. of last dance....that first note you hear in dani...PETTY picks that with 2 strings on guitar and only does it once....the peppers do that first note on bass but double it....thats my latest guess
and yes i thought about the same lyrics ..coz ...they talk about a girl from Indiana and so does PETTY in that song. ....lol glad i got that out. its been buggin me LOL ROF!
