Rawk on, LJ!! I agree they need someone in there with some strong opinions. Kathy Griffin used to be funny but she's such a media w h o r e she's kind of lost her edge IMO. They need someone with true grit or it will be kind of Pleasantville.

Amen LJ. I couldn't agree more. Whether you agree with Ro's views or not she always speaks her truth as she sees it, and I for one respect that. The View was boring before Rosie and I fear will return to it's old ways without her. I will miss her.

Rosie O'Donnell's dressing room at The View isn't even cold yet, but the campaigning to replace her has begun.

Here's what I've heard: Oprah Winfrey's best buddy, Gayle King, and comedian Sherri Shepherd are said to be lobbying hard to fill one of the empty chairs at ABC's chatfest.

As we all know, Star Jones Reynolds has yet to be replaced, and O'Donnell bolted just two weeks before her scheduled final appearance after she and Elisabeth Hasselbeck got into it on live television on May 23.

While King and Shepherd's names have been bandied about in many reports about the future of The View —- both have guested many times —- an insider tells me that they've both had several recent conversations with Walters about joining the show.

"Sherri and Gayle want it really bad," the insider says. "I mean, really bad."

While Shepherd's rep says, "Nobody knows what's going on," I hear Shepherd recently told some friends that she's actually close to being named one of the new cohosts.

While that may be a stretch, Shepherd is going to cohost again next Wednesday. The last time Shepherd, who appears in the upcoming flicks Who's Your Caddy? and The Transformers, appeared on The View was the same day as the O'Donnell and Hasselback's heated battle.

A source close to King says she's not exactly campaigning, but "if they ask her, I'm sure she'd seriously consider it."


While Winfrey and Walters are friends, I'm told they have yet to discuss King's possible future on The View.

Several insiders at the show tell me that Walters & Co. are still trying to regain their footing after O'Donnell's tenure came to a screeching halt. "It's like the Mickey Mouse Club sometimes," one insider said. "They don't know what they want."
