What a slap in the face when someone takes time out of their lives (who is just as important as a celeb - remember we are ALL human) to write a heartfelt letter, only to be TRASHED b/c the person is "tired of it" ... F-YOU RINGO you can't be that busy playing your casino gigs ~ you are now the confirmed s hitty Beatle...

Starr: No more fan mail

LONDON (AP) -- Ringo Starr doesn't want to hear from you. If you do write, your letter will end up in the trash. That's the message from Richard Starkey, aka Ringo Starr. After 45 years of stardom, he doesn't want to spend any more time answering mail or sending signed photos back to fans.

The fan fatigue led the former Beatles drummer to post a sometimes angry sounding short video clip on his Web site telling fans that any mail sent to him after Oct. 20 will not be read or answered. British television stations broadcast the video on Tuesday.

"It's going to be tossed," he says on the video. "I'm warning you with peace and love, I have too much to do. So no more fan mail. Thank you, thank you. And no objects to be signed. Nothing. Anyway, peace and love, peace and love."

The drummer and singer did not elaborate on the reason behind his decision to cut off a major point of contact with his many fans.

Starr, 68, has maintained a very active touring and recording schedule in recent years, drawing large crowds for performances with his All-Starr band.

The band plays a mix of old Beatles hits, Starr's many solo offerings, and other classics from the 1960s and 1970s. Starr usually serves as front man, though he sometimes plays the drums.

But he has angered longtime fans in Liverpool by telling interviewers that he does not miss his native city. Vandals there beheaded a topiary sculpture of Starr earlier this year — he was the only one of the four Beatles whose likeness was desecrated.

The good-natured drummer, who also enjoyed a brief acting career after star turns in Beatles' films "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!," guest starred on a 1991 episode of "The Simpsons" in which he is shown scrupulously answering every piece of fan mail that comes his way.

"They took the time to write to me, and I don't care if it takes 20 years, I'm going to answer every one of them," Starr says on the show.

In his mail, he finds a package from Marge Simpson that contains a portrait she painted of him back in the Beatles heyday. He puts it on his wall and writes back to tell her — a few decades late — how much he likes her painting.

The fans should stop going to his shows and buying his music and then he'll have plenty of da mn time won't he?

I SO AGREE w/what you said about Lisa, during her pregnancy, afterward, no matter how busy she was she TOOK THE TIME to let us know and communicate and to offer autographs was just so selfless on her part.... more stars of today need to take a page out of Lisa's book & Pink's...and also to look back on how Elvis treated his fans, perhaps then they'll understand the fans love for these artists and their endurance in an industry that is quite often fickle!

Ringo couldn't hold a candle to Lennon...I LOVE Lennon to me he is the Beatles and forever will be.

Okay I could understand being bombarded with mail and not being able to keep up and maybe taking a break from mail. But saying it won't be read at all. That'll be thrown in the trash. First off you don't have to reply to every single mail/fannmail. Lisa doesn't have time to personally reply to every single person one on one, but she does make general statements that she reads them and thanks everyone for them. HE can just simply say you can send it but you might not be able to get a reply back. I will read it and I appreciate it but I might not reply at this particular time. I have all three members of sixx a.m. on my friends list at myspace. Each member has an away message on their myspace email. The messages basically state they are too busy to keep up with messages now and to comment instead and they read their comments. I have no problem with an artist saying look I get too much sometimes. I can't always keep up and I want to keep up with it myself. But acknowledge the fans and thank them for the fan mail. and don't come across as rude. Like you don't appreciate it. Some fans do send crazy stuff I know. but for the sane fans could you be polite about it at least. I am not completely nuts that I don't get the lack of spare time in some of these people's lives. But how ringo went about it seemed a bit ridiculous.

He should be happy he's even getting fan mail. I'm sure he'd be upset if he received no fan mail at all. I can't believe he said something like that. I agree, fans should definitely stop sending him mail & stop attending his shows then we'll see how much he doesn't like receiving fan mail. He sounds ungrateful to me.

I thought the whole thing was bizarre, like he was going thru a little p i s s y fit he prolly should've kept private. He could've set his own boundaries about it in private and just gave himself a vacay from looking at the stuff or dealing with it. Oh well. On the other hand, he no doubt made international news. Ya don't see his name in the papers every day lol.

I for one will no longer purchase or have anything to do w/dear old Ringo...and my hubby who is a HUGE Beatles fan and in particular Ringo said he will no longer consider himself a fan of a man who's ego is so huge that he felt it necessary to slap every single fan in the face w/this one communication.

I have feeling he will retract his statements at some point.

I have a friend who has been a secretary to a few famous people and she makes be laugh when she says, "It's really bad when they read all the good things people write about them, and they actually start believing it." She says, "Then I think they become legends in their own minds."

I think people who have famous talents or have been blessed to work with others who have made them more successful sometimes forget how to be human and humble. They actually forget what people have done to get them where they are.

I appreciate Lisa and her family's kindness. I love a humble person and will go out of my way to help them before a donkey's backside.

i dont think thats ever been done before ...crazy....i wasnt a big fan anyway. ...

don't u think ur overreacting just a lil bit? i mean to just stop buying anything that has 2 do with him just cuz he doesn't want to read fan mail?

honestly i don't think its that big of a deal, all he said was that he had too much to do and wouldn't be able to read or reply. so under those circumstances whats the point in sending? if he doesn't want to or doesn't have time to read the mail then thats his business, it doesn't make him a bad person. i mean who knows whats going on in his life that makes him too busy to read all that stuff?

No,no I don't. It was not as much as what he said but how he said it, how it was delivered.
Why should I spend my money on a man who feels it necessary to put this type of statement out there.
We're not the only fans (now ex-fans) who feel this way.
But this is our opinion and feelings not saying that others feel the same or shoud do the same, though it would give him more time.
And again there were other means to communicate this, etc...

Sorry you found my opinion and personal choice regardng him too harsh for you.
