Isaac Hayes with longtime friend and personal cook, Pearlie Biles, and celebrity chef Wendell Price, make beautiful music together, in and out of the kitchen.

Interspersed among the recipes are Hayes's reminiscences of growing up in the country with his sharecropper grandparents, his family's move to Memphis when he was seven years old, and his first experiences as a singer/musician while still in school. He describes how he came to work at Stax Records, a black-oriented record company in Memphis, his celebrated partnership with David Porter; his participation in civil rights marches and demonstrations in Memphis; and his memories of the late Martin Luther King Jr. (Hayes was scheduled to have dinner with Dr. King the night he was assassinated); his encounter with Elvis Presley; and his participation in Shaft, the film that helped cement his reputation as a superstar. Hayes also describes how he became interested in healthy cooking, his philosophy on healthy living and working out, his interest in alternative medicine, and what it means to eat to live.

He is currently the voice of "Chef' on South Park and the top-rated DJ on WRKS-FM 98.7, one of the top-rated radio stations in the tri-state area. Honored for his humanitarian efforts in both Africa and the United States, he was the international spokesman for the World Literacy Campaign, in which he remains actively involved.

,......banana pudding,....mmmmmmmm, my favorite dessert.about 5-6 layers thick w/ plenty of wafers and the real pudding instead of that imitation style,......lol.

yeppers.....My family always eats that on holidays.....lots of bananas and wafers....and da pudding mushes it all down....

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Jan. 18) - Isaac Hayes was being treated at a Memphis hospital Tuesday for exhaustion, his longtime songwriting partner said.

"He's just overworked and had been in Atlantic City performing, the D.C. area performing, and in Tunica (Miss.) a couple of nights ago. He was just overworked," David Porter told The Commercial Appeal newspaper.

"He's doing much better," Porter added.

It was not immediately known which hospital the soul singer had checked into. Calls to his agents were not returned.

Hayes, 63, is best known for his 1971 No. 1 hit "Theme From Shaft," from the Richard Roundtree film. The soundtrack won the Oscar for best musical score.

More recently, he was the voice of the character Chef on the TV show "South Park."

During his time as a backup artist at Stax Records in Memphis, he established a songwriting partnership with Porter, and in the 1960s they wrote such hits for Sam and Dave as "Hold On, I'm Coming" and "Soul Man."
