- I think that this role would be hard to cast .... BUT ~

Tom Cruise is set to play Hugh Hefner in a new biopic of the Playboy founder's life.

The 45-year-old actor, who has an 18-month-old daughter Suri with his actress wife Katie Holmes, is hot favourite to portray the 81-year-old lothario in upcoming movie 'Playboy' and is reportedly excited about the prospect of bringing Hefner's "colourful life" to the big screen.

A source close to the actor said: "Tom knows of Hugh's colourful past and thinks he would be the perfect person to bring it to the big screen.

"He also thinks the role would be a challenge for him, and would remind people of his versatility as an actor. At the moment people are concentrating on his personal life, and his marriage to Katie - but he wants to remind them that he can act too."

A spokesperson for the star has refused to confirm whether he has accepted the part.

They said: "A lot of people consider Tom for a lot of roles."

Leonardo DiCaprio - a frequent visitor to Hugh's famous Playboy mansion in Los Angeles - has also been linked to the role.

'X-Men 3' director Brett Ratner has reportedly signed on to direct the film.

oh god no not tom cruise!!!! i think he would be HORRIBLE as hef!!!! leo is a better choice, but your right, it is hard to cast someone for hef...

I don't picture Tom Cruise as Hefner, I have read this yesterday and been pondering about who....I do think Leonardo De Caprio would be a really good pick because IMHO(of course lol) he did a FANTASTIC job with Aviator(howard hughes) and I liked him in that movie, just can't think of the name where he portrays the check writer con...um Catch Me If You Can. I think Michael Douglas could make a great Hef.

This is such a tough one for me .... See Leonardo is ok ~ but not as Hef .. I still think that he is too "boysh" (like when he tried to play the hero in Titanic all I could see is a adolescent boy ?? JMO)

It will be hard to cast as Hef is now in his 80's sop maybe they would have to cast someone to play young Hef and someone for Hef now ..?? or just age the older one.

Hefner is gross....Tom Cruise is gross...so he would probably be good in the role! Quite sure I will never watch this future movie.
