Clint has left the field!
By Kurt Smith The New Hampshire race wouldn’t rank in the top five for most exciting in the history of NASCAR, but it was heartening to see Clint Bowyer score his first win. Clint seems like a good guy, his sponsor is Jack Daniel’s, and he helped Vapor Trails Racing (my fantasy team) win its first FRL (fantasy league) championship. Bowyer is an Elvis fan, and he recently got to meet Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie Presley. Clint ranked it as the greatest moment of his life until he scored his first win. Now that he’s won, the next big thing would be to marry Lisa Marie. Despite having a car that was utterly dominant throughout the day, Clint was clearly nervous on the radio near the end, and I thought it was kind of mean for ABC to air his obvious agitation. Considering he had Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart behind him waiting to pounce and take away his glory, he had every right to be a case. OK, I’m exaggerating a bit. He wasn’t that bad. He did say in the post-race interview that he felt he was going to throw up, which would have been really bad. But fortunately he kept it in, and scored a dominating first win in what appears to be a bright future. Congratulations to Clint and the No. 07 team, and a great job on that burnout. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the car just completely obscured by that large a cloud of smoke.
