NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Elvis Presley will be reunited with Sun Records as part of a licensing agreement between the owner of the historic label and the singer's estate.

Sun Entertainment Corp. of Nashville announced the agreement with Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc. Thursday.

The company said Memphis-based Elvis Presley Enterprises has licensed the use of its trademarks in the name, image and likeness of Presley to Sun for several commemorative retail products. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Presley's first recordings were with Sun Records, which sold its Elvis recording catalog to RCA Victor in the fall of 1955 as Presley was on the verge of stardom.

Original Sun Records owner/producer Sam Phillips and his company played a pivotal role in the careers of not only Presley, but also Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Charlie Rich, Ike Turner, Rufus Thomas, Roy Orbison and other important artists in rock, country and R&B music in the 1950s.

"Bringing Elvis and Sun Records back together in a special way at retail offers all kinds of exciting possibilities," Sun Entertainment Chairman Shelby S. Singleton said.

Carol Butler, EPE's vice president of international licensing, said the agreement with Sun was "something we have long wanted to do, and now the time has finally come."

The new Elvis and Sun Records co-branded products should begin appearing later this year in retail outlets and online at http://www.SunRecords.com and http://www.ShopElvis.com. More will appear in 2007 during the yearlong commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death.

This is where the issue gets a little confused. The actual studio in Memphis where the historical recordings were made has absolutely no affiliations to Sun Records (in Nashville). It's more commercial and political than anything else nowadays. Just from what I know regarding this case, I'm glad that EPE is recognizing the connection between Elvis and Sun, I just think they are missing the DIRECT connection (which is THE Sun Studio). It's a little sad that the actual studio, Sam Phillip's Sun Studio, has been left out of all of this. When you consider the fact that without Sun Studio, Sun Records would have never existed in the first place. Oh well, progress is progress I suppose.

believe me...its famous ....and more so because of E and CASH. amoung others you know. ...if they make money of tourism from people wanting to go stand on the floor where ELVIS or CASH among others stood ...then they ALL should have rights...to any money driven ....ELVIS and CASH expecially ...jmo. ....

ive never noticed Sun Studio's left out ..ive noticed ELVIS left out ...but im just quessing ...dont know much about either ...so nevermind. ...

I see your point here, but I am seeing this "deal" as more of a tug-of-war in light of the Sun vs. Sun lawsuit that was filed a couple of weeks ago.

I'm just leery of any "deal" sparked by Shelby Singleton ( esp. when it pertains to Elvis/EPE)at this point in time. I can see both sides of the disagreement, but I just feel like this could lead to a sad fate for such an important peice of history. I guess time will tell
