Let me start by saying this is not meant in a derogatory way. I think Elvis was a creative genius. I just got through reading the Peter Guralnick books. The way in which he describes Elvis sounds like he was manic-depressive. As many people know creative geniuses often do suffer from this illness. Did he?

I don't know, but you better go with this question to the forums at www.tcb-world.com. It's a site of Elvis forums. It would be more appropriate + there are people there who know way more about Elvis Wink

Yeah, it's ok, but still, it's Lisa's site, and there are many Elvis sites. So, if you wanna get some answers regarding him, you could ask people who know more Wink

i totaly agree! that's why i rearely read books about Elvis, they can't tell his side of the storie anyway. i believe best way to get know Elvis is to listed to what he saide and sang, and also to read HIS favorite books. those books and songs were very much a part of him and can give us an insight of his mind and heart. most importatly, don't forget that we also have Lisa's wordsl. i believe her over any darn book.

pg. 80 ...
...A possible link between madness and genius is one of the oldest and most persistent of cultural notions; it is also one of the most controversial. An intimate realtionship between the ancient gods, madness, and the creators was described in pre-Grecian myths, most dramatically in the Dionysian struggles between violence and creation, and madness and reason. ...
pg. 51 ...
...Divine madness and inspiration were thought obtainable only during particular states of mind, such as loss of consciousness, affliction with illness, madness, or states of "possession." SOCRATES, in his speech on divine madness in Phaedrus, said:
"Madness, provided it comes as the gift of Heaven, is the channel by which we receive the greatest blessings. ...the men of old who gave things their names saw no disgrace or reproach in madness; otherwise they would not have connected it with the name of the noblest of all arts, the art of discerning the future, and called it the manic art. ...So, according to the evidence provided by our ancestors, madness is a nobler thing than sober sense...madness comes from God, whereas sober sense is merely human." ...

DAM I LOVE SOCRATES LOL....WHERE HAS HE BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE ?????? LMAO. I LOVE THAT GUY. ....Smiler *

I'm really glad that on Elvis by the Presley's they listed some of his favorite books that he read. It was really interesting to see what types of books he enjoyed reading. I might buy one and start reading it just becuase they look interesting to me....
