Pink sees red

TORONTO — Feisty pop singer Pink is making no apologies for her new video for Stupid Girls, in which she bashes a group of young starlets who she says perpetuate ‘‘the conveyor-belt (of) mindless consumerism’’ in the entertainment industry.

‘‘Jimmy crack corn and I don’t care,’’ the blond artist, whose real name is Alecia Moore, said with a laugh in an interview about the possibility of negative reaction to the recently released video.

‘‘I’ve never had a problem being burned alive for my feelings.’’

In the video and song — which is on Pink’s upcoming album, I’m Not Dead, due out April 4 — the Los Angeles-based singer slams a slew of celebrity it-girls she thinks represent the ‘‘huge lack of tolerance for diversity or thought.’’

The normally tomboyish Pink, wearing army pants, a tank top, a tweed hat and her ‘‘moon boots’’ to the interview, is seen in the video with oversized sunglasses and trendy, bohemian chic clothing and buying a small, fluffy dog — a clear imitation of The Simple Life co-star Nicole Richie.

There’s also a jab at celebutante Paris Hilton’s infamous sex tape and Jessica Simpson’s video for These Boots Are Made for Walkin’. While filming that scene, a bikini-clad Pink fell off the soaped-up car she was washing and chipped a bone in her wrist, and the stunt was included in the video.

Pink, 26, sings over the song’s reggae/ska/latin grooves, ‘‘What Happened to the dream of a girl president? She’s dancing in the video next to 50 Cent.’’

‘‘I feel like so many women have been out there fighting for our independence and our equality and to further our rights, and girls like this come along and wipe out all of our progress and they push this size zero image that’s unattainable for the average person,’’ said Pink, who is also seen in the video getting an orange, spray-on tan sported by the likes of Hilton and Simpson, and lying on a plastic surgery table.

‘‘No girl needs any more reasons to think that her ****s aren’t big enough (because of) this mindless, unquestioning consumerism. ‘Shop, shop, shop. Don’t contribute. Don’t think, it’s not sexy. Smart and sexy are oil and water. You have to dumb yourself down to be cute.’

‘‘I have a lot of feelings on the subject and I don’t like it, so I speak my mind and everybody can hate me, and some won’t and some will.’’

Hilton has been quoted by U.S. media as saying Pink — who hasn’t had a record out since November 2003 — is just using her and other celebrities to make a musical comeback, to which Pink retorted in the interview, ‘‘Spell it. Spell comeback!’’

Pink, who recently married motocross star Carey Hart, explained she wrote the song with a certain breed of celebrity in mind and it was she and director Dave Meyers who decided to go after specific stars in the video.

‘‘They were easy examples,’’ quipped Pink when asked why she decided to mock Hilton and the others.

Pink also addresses eating disorders in the video by dressing up in a blond wig, entering a bathroom declaring she ate ‘‘like 300 calories today’’ and pretending to make herself vomit in a sink beside a young girl doing the same thing.

She said she felt is necessary to add that scene since she, too, has felt the pressures to be thin.

‘‘I’m not a professional athlete but I like being fit. But in every tabloid (has been the headline), A Chubby Pink Walking Her Dogs, and I laugh at it because I don’t, at the end of the day, (care) what these people (think),’’ said the tattooed and pierced singer with a snicker.

‘‘They’re not feeding me, they’re not clothing me and they’re not having sex with me ... and they’re not my dogs. So if you don’t fall in those categories, you know, it’s a good chance I don’t care.’’

Pink’s four dogs are a big part of her newlywed life with Hart and were even with them on the first half of their two-week honeymoon in early January.

‘‘We went snowboarding in Mammoth, (Calif.,), where we got engaged, for a couple of days with our dogs but they had diarrhea so we were cleaning up dog poop for the first three days of our honeymoon,’’ she said, amused. ‘‘Then we dropped the dogs at home and we went to Fiji.’’

The two met in 2001 and wed Jan. 7 in Costa Rica in a beach-side celebration that included Lisa Marie Presley, who Pink calls a close friend and a ‘‘strong cookie.’’

With plans for a tour starting in smaller clubs this summer, Pink said she’s ‘‘not anywhere ready’’ to start a family but she’d like one eventually.

I’m Not Dead, which was recorded in New York and L.A., combines electric and acoustic sounds, as well as a choir and symphony, over Pink’s trademark raspy vocals.

She said the album is her most diverse yet, while the title represents a celebration of life and freedom of speech.

‘‘I need to live responsibly and to the fullest and act like I’m going to die tomorrow, every day of my life ... I’m not dead. I’m not going anywhere. I’m not going to sit down and shut up.’’

Pink is awesome! I like that she stands up for what she believes. Those "hollywood" it-girls are getting on my last nerves! Getting all super, scary skinny: PINK HAS A POINT!

I love Pink too! It's crazy anyone would call her chubby, not that it's a big deal if someone gains weight. Pink has an awesome body, muscles everywhere. She works hard, plays hard, tells it like it is, has courage and has fun too. Sounds a lot like a certain LMP, huh? It's great that they are friends.
You can shine, but not like I can shine. You coulda set me free if you'd eased up on the line. It's supposed to be quiet but it's loud in the sky. I'll take care of the vultures with a glass of wine.
