I have an October notebook full of wrinkled, torn and depraved gems.
Here's number one. As I decipher them for myself, so shall I for you.

HALO OF FLIES.

We buried all our children head first
in shallow short people graves
all the while half-hearted shovelling
shifting leaves in slippery waves all raves and mumbling
under baited breath 'no worries, lil honies, Jesus saves
surely surely Jesus saves'

We were home free
when one got the wiggles
got the black dirt itch
got the earthwormsquiggles

how it did it weep and how it did grovel
she sought silence with the business end of the shovel
number four who was always a lil dull
his dim met with darker within a caved in skull

like caged pigs of guinea
some got so underfed
as in some got dead
from being so d.amn skinny
