SADNESS

As she sits in the chair that seems to swallow her whole
She's got a glass half full of red wine in her right hand
As she moves it ever so slightly in circular motion
She's got a cigarette burning in the other hand
She leans back and rests her head, which is wrapped in a towel
From a shower where she cried all she could cry
As she leans her body back she closes her eyes and thinks of the man who has hurt her for the last time
Tears fall from her face
As she takes a puff of her cigarette
She thinks of her cat, and how he seems to never do her wrong
She takes the last drink of her wine and sets her glass down
Puts out her cigarette
And wipes the tears from her eyes
As she gets up she adjusts her robe and throws the towel on the ground
As though tossing away all her bad thoughts
As she collapses on her bed
The phone rings
It's him, caller ID
She unclips the phone jack from the wall
Wipes her tears away again and thinks of how dumb she is to cry over a guy
He's not worth it, she realizes
Right before she closes her eyes
Her cat comes up and lays on her back
Purring and digging his claws into her robe
That's the only man she needs in her life
Her cat she calls Handsome
They fall asleep ever so peacefully
