A time to talk....a time to play
A time to accept awards....will their words stay?
As Madonna gets ready to take on the world yet once again
The Grammy's will show us where and when
When the music industry comes together for just one night
Will they be any different...will someone stand up and shed some light
Thank God for the music to keep us aware
Of how the times are changing.....but some don't really care
It often becomes truth or dare
To see who can speak with compassion and make a point
Or others who would go backstage to smoke a joint
These musicians would want you to make them stars
But still they will head out to the bars
To gather together like boys and girls
Can we still remember We Are The World?
When they banded together to make poverty and hunger a thing of the past
Why didn't this movement last?
I think Madonna will make her statement on Grammy night
If the time is right
She will sing her heart's song or present with a purpose in mind
For I still believe that there are others who would treat the world so kind
And sing with a purpose like Imagine was meant to be
For these artists should learn to represent you and me
The people who buy their music and make them a star
I only hope that they don't forget who they are
