Well, technically not mine, since i'm severely allergic to them. . .my eyes swell up, i nearly quit breathing. . .so fun. . .anyway. . .I still love the darned things so i've figured out over the years how to be around them and not get sick. . .and I also apparently smell like catnip because everywhere I live, cats flock to me We have about 6 "wild" cats in the neighborhood thanks to someone moving and just leaving them. and of course, they hang around here. our garage sits at the back of the lot and if you leave one of the doors up, the cats all come in to snooze. so you walk in and cats come flying out of everywhere. . .I jump and cuss every time! 2 of them are pretty tame. . .my kids have dubbed them Princess Snowball and "Bob"cat. . .although we have no clue if those names are gender correct!

Wildchild--according to my kids the last few days--I am a witch! (although i'm thinking they don't mean that affectionately!)

Karnie--when I was little my cat allergies were MUCH worse. as a teen I went thru 4 years of shots and that helped a lot. now if I just keep my hands away from my face until I wash them and change clothes right away if they are hairy i'm ok. if I do touch my face I end up with horribly itchy eyes and an asthma attack. Funny thing is--i test allergic to dogs as well--yet i've had dogs my whole life and never have reacted to them. go figure.

I've taken allergy shots since I was in the 4th grade and I never really noticed a difference. I only started to get allergic to cats like 3 years ago. So, the allergist changed the serum in my allergy shots to include cat dander in them. I quit them about 2 years ago, partly cause I was too lazy to go to the allergy shot place and partly cause I didn't think they'd work. But seeing that they worked for you, maybe I should've given them some more time to see if I could at least tolerate being around cats.

hey Karnie. . .I took 2 shots a week for the better part of 4 years. as they weaned me off of them I went to like 2 every other week and stuff for awhile. they did make a big difference as far as cats. or maybe after 15 years of practically dying every time I was near a cat I finally figured out what to do to avoid an attack. Really overall the shots did make a difference in my allergies. i'm allergic to practically everything but food and now a daily allergy pill controls things for the most part. in the spring and fall some times i'll have to add a little Benadryl for flare ups--like when i'm at the park for the kids ball games--around all the trees and stuff. I know testing is expensive, but maybe you should try a different dr. I didn't get the right treatment for my allergies/asthma until I was about 11 and my mom finally hooked me up with a knowledgable dr in an allergy/asthma clinic. until then, i'd been poked, prodded and given god knows what to no avail. . .but if your allergies are really bothersome, i'd see about further testing and/or a different dr. Allergies can make ya miserable. My brother in law spends summers holding cold Coke cans on his eyes to make them feel better. noone can figure out what to do for him. . .
