Report: Former Boston Mob Boss Angiulo Dies
Angiulo Convicted Of Racketeering In 1986

BOSTON -- Former New England mob underboss Gennaro "Jerry" Angiulo, who was one of the most prominent figures in Boston’s history of organized crime, died Saturday at his home in Nahant, according to the Boston Herald.

Angiulo, 90, had been suffering problems with kidney failure and he suffered a broken hip earlier this month, the paper reported.

Angiulo and his three brothers were convicted on racketeering and illegal gambling charges in February 1986 with evidence from conversations the FBI secretly recorded. In 1998, it was revealed in federal court that gangsters James "Whitey" Bulger and Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi gave the FBI instructions on where the bugs should be planted.

After serving 21 years in prison, Angiulo was released on parole in 2007.

Growing up in NY both Upstate and in the city, yeah I knew of them. (Mafia). I won't get into it more...but yes, very familiar with certain parts of our society.

I know what you mean, Toronto was the same way, when my mom purchased her first business, it was in "Little Italy" in downtown, not far from the CN tower, anyway, when the mob came in, it was much safer and my mom's Italian grocery store was never bothered. Smiler
They never murdered anyone, they just let it be known that you should not mess w/the neighborhood nor the people in it...and they kept that protection even for those like my family, who weren't Italian.
