I met a friend of mine on the bus the other day, we used to work together long long ago, and I hadnt seen them in years. It seems he had been in the service and in the war, and had become a really, really quiet, reserved kind of guy, like a beaten dog though, skittish, nervous. I had just bought a few groceries, so I broke open a pack of vanilla oreos and asked if he would like some? He looked at me, and looked like he was trying to remember how to smile. He looked at the cookies, then very shyly took one and wouldn't take another.I tried hard to imagine what may have happened to him. He said he had to go back overseas soon, and I did thank him.The bus we both got on, I got off at the next stop, and he kept going on the route, I waved bye, he only looked at me and then at the floor.Near to broke my heart, and I wonder sometimes if him staying on the bus, was metaphoric in a way, or maybe he wasn't really there at all.Anyhoo, I tried Darcy.Good film.

I am sorry that it made you guys cry, but I am also glad you understood. And Pen, what you did was very very cool and I am very proud of you for understanding what that Soldier could not or would not dare say. He had been to war and was going back and his life would forever changed and not for the better, but he was still hanging in. Thank you for reaching out, I bet he will always remember you when he see's an Oreo cookie!
