I poured my heart into this poem because it's about Elvis. Personally, i'm use to writing funny poems, but this one required a great deal of emotion....I hope nobody takes offense to it...

TITLE: "What Would Elvis Think?" Written August 22 2007

What would he think about the war in Iraq

What would he say about the 9-11 attack

Just after the planes hit and then New York shook

Would Elvis agree with the actions we took

What would he say about Michael Vick and sports

Would Elvis agree with selling our ports

Would he weep at the sight of people in need

Would Elvis be angry would he denounce all the greed

What would he say about China and trade

Would Elvis be patriotic about where it's all made

Pet food poison that is killing our dogs

Poison in our streams infecting the frogs

What would he think about the damage we've done

The greenhouse gases and a much hotter sun

Would Elvis agree with a worried Al Gore

About the ice caps melting affecting our shore

What would he think about the politics today

Would Elvis shake his head then sigh and walk away

Fighting over religion, killing each other in war

Would Elvis wipe the tears away and suddenly be filled with more

What about all the violence that's killing our kids in school

Would Elvis agree with assault rifles, with a trigger that's easy to pull

What would he think about New Orleans, all those houses destroyed

Would Elvis agree with our country's response when the guard was slowly deployed

Aids and Cancer, still killing, still around

Is Elvis appalled that a cure was never found

Our Bridges are now falling as our roads all decay

No money spent for up keep, what would Elvis say

Taxcuts for the wealthy while poor folks go without

Does Elvis look at god and ask "Is this what life's about?"

Why do people have to starve, oh lord, why is so much pain on earth

Why do people have to suffer, Oh Lord, from the beginning of their birth

"This is life I created, Elvis." said god with tear filled eyes. They all must endure this suffering and pain for this is what makes them all wise."

don't try to use a liberal agenda and elvis in the same work. elvis was fiercely against speaking about his views on politics in public. and the only time he ever did speak about his political views it was CONSERVATIVE (read the nixon letter and the transcript from his meeting).

here's some facts about elvis:

he was very pro-america and very much a patriot.
he had a huge gun collection.

he supported law enforcement, collected law enforcement badges, wrote a fan letter to j. edgar hoover, rode around with the police and even wanted to help them out on patrol.

he was even known to pull people over for speeding violations--check out his car sirens at graceland.
this was in the '60s when the hippies and such were calling the police "pigs". meanwhile, he was flying them all at his expense to go get the "fool's gold" sandwich.

he denounced the likes of jane fonda, john lennon, the black panthers, etc... as people destroying america, in the nixon letter/during the meeting.

priscilla has said that elvis was anti-feminist and old-fashioned about his views on marriage.

he gave tons to charity, and got very little publicity. often, he'd give anonymously.

he was against segregation and racism--which contrary to liberal belief, was more of a conservative cause--abraham lincoln (the civil war) and dwight. d. eisenhower (the first to stop segregation in schools) were both republicans. it was the democratic national convention that booed sammy davis jr. for marrying a white woman (that combined with getting snubbed by kennedy, caused frank sinatra to change political parties to the republican side).

all evidence supports the opposite of your poem.

however, in respect of elvis, he did NOT want his political beliefs bandied about because he did not want his fanbase splintered by politics. he sang to everybody, no matter who they were or what they believed.

"there's not going to be any messages or this and that, i just want to make people happy for that one hour that it comes across..."

"on social comments like that, dear, i'd just assume to not make a comment."

"I get lonesome sometimes, I get lonesome right in the middle of a crowd."
"Don't criticize what you don't understand, son. You never walked in that man's shoes."
"You only pass through this life once, you don't come back for an encore."

Hi, Elvis' Babe

I am truly sorry that you were offended by this poem that I wrote. I wasn't trying to make a Republican or a Democrat attack. Nore was it supposed to be a political attack against any one party. I was merely expressing the problems we have in our world today and in our country. What would Elvis think? These very same problems have been going on for several years, even before George W Bush...As a matter of fact, Bill Clinton passed NAFTA, something that I strongly disagree with. The poem was meant to show suffering and things that we all deal with here on a daily bases....If you feel I was using Elvis to push a Liberal egenda, then i'm very sorry. That was not my intention at all....

Please except my deepest apologys ...

Me too! I've been an Elvis fan since the late 60s. I can remember my sister got a record player for christmas and also an Elvis album. I sat and listened to that album over and over again. I think I even wore out her needle.

PS....I'm having trouble sleeping tonight. I've got a little Chihuahua "named Sissy Loo" that sleeps on my bed. She snores like crazy!! Yesterday she ran under my car and there just happened to be "a very large Wasper nest" just under the right front fender. They swarmed down and flogged her!! She ran in the house yelping and then under the bed. I was very concerned about her but she seems to be doing fine now....

I think i'm going to go get in the pool this morning. Maybe that'll wake me up! I've gotta mow today....Geez!
