Hey b1 , I am sorry your babies and you have to go thru all this. I grew up with cats, we had one from the time I was eleven....and she lived 19 1/2 years!! I cannot even tell you what that was like on her last day. She had a couple litters and we had kept two of her sons...they both passed away before her. They were all a part of my family. Cats are the best!!!! They are lucky to have you taking such good care of them!! Hang in there!!!

thank you everyone for all of your support,lets see Panda goes back to vet in two weeks for a check up and he will stay on his dosage of 3 half pills a day. RAlphy just took him yesterday to have blood sugar tested, it was low so we have dropped the insulin to 3 units twice a day and he his now on the reduced protein diet from vet its for kidney and heart disease, I was reading the can and it actually sounded pretty good. We have to get more fluids into him he is dry, I have water dishes all over the place and one in bed with him. He will drink milk so we will give him that 3-4 times a day, and vet said to mix tuna juice/oil in can put in with water and same with salmon juice/oil in can. Its to bad we cant buy the juice by it self. Ralphy is eating pretty good, vet said trick of the trade to get a cat to eat wet food is to put in microwave for 10 sec. so it enhances the flavor so we've been doing that to. So we are plugging along. Will keep you up dated on both kitties progress.

Alittle up date on Ralphy, I thought he was doing ok, but turns out he isnt. I had to take him to vet today,Monday morning. He was dry on fri when he was at vet so I was afraid of him getting dehydrated, plus he started drouling on the weekend, anyway he spent the day at the vet, he put fluids into him. Because of the kidney disease hes not getting enough water into him. He needs a certain amount in order for the kidneys to work right. So I have to force feed him 100ml of water by syringe daily. I bought one of those automated dishes that circulate the water so its fresher, and cats like fresh water. And we are using the bottle water something I seen on the net to try. I'm going to buy another automated dish on friday, they dont have the large one in it might come in on fri. There is a test the vet can do to see if we are winning or not and we arent at that point yet so as you can see things arent good, I will everything I can to help him. He just needs to drink alittle more water.

Thanks posnsgr, well he goes tomorrow to vet, the vet told me he wants to show me how to do a enema. The big intestine needs fluid and thats a good way to do it. That will be interesting.... I went and got 5 more syringes from vet to give him water with its alot easier. And to really throw a curve ball into things I'm on a different shift next week because of this strike in the states, so everything will have to be rescheduled and my room mate will half to give Ralphy half the water for the day and me the other half so this should be interenting, but needs to be done. All the prayers and good vibes are much needed still. Will let you know how tomorrow goes. Again thank you all for your support.

Seems like you are learning so much about how to take care of Cats, Julie that you could be a Veterinarian yourself, lol. Seriously though, I hope your cats get well and I hope you know that you are doing everything humanly possible for them. Your truly a great mom to them.

Thanks lil. Today we went to vet with Ralphy the vet is very happy with his progress, since we've started the fluid therapy at home 100ml orally daily, and we've been able to get him to eat some of his new diet. He didnt get a enema this time. He also has gained some weight which is wonderful news. His coat is looking better.
He will stay on a low dose of insulin twice a day. The vet said he would like to do a blood work up at end of month depending how things go he may not even need it. If things do go backwards there are some options for us to do to help him which I'm pretty happy about. So I'm pretty happy with the news and hopefully things will continue to go forward. Panda goes to vet next thurs. for a check up on how he is doing I would imagine vet will want to reduce his dosage on his water pill. So hopefully things will be good for Panda to. I would like to thank everyone for your prayers and good thoughts,and support it has helped alot. I will keep you posted on both of the babes progress.

Sounds like your getting a crash course in Veterinary work. Glad to hear Ralphy is doing a little better. Sorry to hear about the shift change though.

Hi LJ, Ralphy is heading in the positive direction for now and I hope it stays that way. Last nite he didnt eat his new diet, which he really needs. So we will be watching that closely. Panda bear is holding his own to at the moment like I said he goes back to vet on thurs. Will let you know the out come.
