I know a young woman (still in her teens) put on Effexor cuz she was p.i.s.s.ing off her parents and now she's ADDICTED totally freaks out just crying and can't sleep when she's off Effexor so she's so mad at the doc who got her addicted and the drug itself for being so bad for withdrawal. Next to Paxil, it's the hardest anti-depressant to get off.

I'm not anti-med, but I'm soooo anti drs prescribing without explaining the long-term consequences, many of which we don't even KNOW yet ... easier to get a drug on the market and shower drs with free samples than to responsibly study the long-term effects. I know they do some studies, but when a drug is new they can't answer what about 30 yrs from now? 40?

Ahhhh ... if peeps could just afford good therapy with RESPONSIBLE, CARING, INTELLIGENT professionals instead of drugs first, questions later, well that would help I think.

But health care sux in U.S. and in Canada so what are you going to do?

this what you say is so true i mean ok in uk we dont pay but they just give you drugs coz the wait to see somebody is so long and the waiting i hate it, it does nearly as much harm as the drugs it made me more screwed up for sure especially when your sat at home all day with just youself and 4 walls for company when all you want is help. with me they said i dint ask for help but when i did they egnore me. if they treated up like people and not just there waiting list then we might get somewere thats why mental health services here are so bizzy coz we all sat round getting worse before we get to the services we need so when we finaly get there it takes longer to get better than if we had been seen when we first asked for help. here they will often take you into a service and give you help and just when your starting to feel better they kick you out without any help or support (unless you want meds) and buy the time you get to see whos next on the list all the work they did with you at the last place has been undun by the waitin around on your own and i just think what a waste of money that could be better spent and what a waste of my life too. but you know im just passionate about these things so you have to forgive me for going on

i totaly agree here majik you are a star a bright shiny one as far as i can see. it was me who posted this mental health topic and im so glad i did coz ive learnt more here than i have anywere else. ive learnt much from you majik from what you have posted here so i want to say to you a great big shiny THANK YOU for posting here and for everything you say

Some psychological disorders are impossible to determine why they occur in some and not in others. there are many things that can be treated, but the origins are a mystery.
Like chemical imbalances we know that there is an imbalance and can treat it, but why it occured is the mystery

I am kinda studying this sorta thing and i find the thread interesting

yeah me too. ...well i used to be in psych. ...but changed to paralegal...then changed to business to get the hell outta school LMAO

id love to study psych or sumat like that but i know im not smart inuff for sumat like that and i guess im not well enough for that at the moment the little mental health course im doing is inuff for me its aimed at people who want to be support workers and jobs like that quite ironik then that ive had to get a support worker to help give me support with the course and so i can do a work placement. i like the course its very interesting and learns you loads about yourself and has been a great help in understanding my own difficulties. any of you ever heard of an organisation called mind?

i know what you mean slim ...but idk. ...i think YES many peeps are mis-diagnosed ....thats why you need to have a doctor that KNOWS exactly whats going on and KNOWS you . ....more than just one visit at and more than one diagnosis ...you know....
