I know there are many people on this board from other countries that have a National Health Care system or single payer system so I was wanting some feedback. For those of you who have this type of system, (ie. France, Canada, basically most western developed countries besides the US) what do you think of this system? Do you feel you receive good health care? Do you have a problem getting specialized care for more involved illnesses? Do you have a long wait for care? Basically how would you rate the system overall and are you happy with this type of healthcare system? Any feedback would be helpful. I am just researching different political ideas and solutions and would love input from those that have this kind of system. Thanks

Take a visit to a Veteran`s hospital...or speak to a disabled Vet...and tell me you want the Government in charge of your medical care. Want to be put on a waiting list to have surgery,,,which could take up to 6 months to have? Doesn`t matter how serious your condition might be. You`re on a list and you don`t go until your number is called.
AND, under Hillary Clinton`s proposed plan if you seek out a doctor on your own accord you could go to jail or face a hefty fine. Now tell me, does anyone really want this woman as our next President? ----------------------------------- Security is not the absence of danger but the presence of God no matter what the danger. lol, we don't have a Health Care System, we have a ..if you don't have insurance...who cares, system. You are good as dead or bankrupt, pick one.
I love how you always work attacking our next president into your threads UD. When everyone has insurance and is able to go to the doctor when ill and not be turned away, then you can say ...uuuu , I was wrong,LOL Healthcare is a business right now, MONEY MOMEY MONEY,you can't pay, then your screwed. Don`t worry, if socialized medicine becomes reality we`ll all be dead because we`ll all be standing in the waiting line. And, if we try to seek out a different doctor on our own accord there will be a hefty price to pay or jail time. That`s not attacking. That`s stating the facts straight from the goose`s mouth.

My dad who is an ex military man and has his insurance through the government said the same thing about Hilary's idea. He said that would be THE worst thing she could do. (Not to mention he can't stand her) I personally think she seems nice enough and is extremely intelligent, but no way do I want her or Osama who his virtually nil experince. Now I don't have the greatest insurance. We have a $3000 deductible so basically I end up paying that by the time December rolls around out of MY pocket, but I still DO NOT want socialized medicine.

I wish we could get for adults like they have passed for children Blue Chip Programs. So that we can get group rate prices based on income. For those that do not have insurance. To me it only makes sense, look at the cost of ER facilities because ppl use that when they are so sick they have to go instead of a dr. Then they don't pay, can't pay or slow pay.
Additonally MANY AND I SAY MANY employers Do NOT offer health insurance. I don't want social medicine at all, or completely but I need to find out how the Blue Chip Programs are set up. I know it was passed through congress but each state has their own plan. That might be the way to go for adults between the ages of 18-63 who are working, are willing to pay a fee that they can afford. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Jonee, |

I agree with most of that except for being based on income. Just because some may make good money in my opinion I don't feel we should have to pay more for insurance. People shouldn't be penalized for working hard and making a good living. Trashy CLASSLESS LOOSERRRRSSSSS!!!! |

I’m curious about National Health Care too…
From my previous experience in working w/ state (government) administered manage care programs (aka Medicaid), having the government manage your health care be problematic. UD, is right about the waiting list… I’ve seen surgeries be schedule for enrollees 6 months out b/c it’s so hard to find surgeons who are willing to do procedures & get paid a fraction of what commercial insurance companies pay. Some physicians refuse to take government insurance b/c it takes so long for them to get paid and sometimes don’t get paid @ all & are forced to write off the expenses. Having some kind of insurance is definitely better than none at all. Like w/ most insurance, I bet these types of programs have limitations and exclusions as to what they are willing to pay though. What I don’t like about our current insurance situation in America is all the fraud that goes on. It’s so easy for people lie about their living situations in order to get aid… all of which the tax payers fit the bill for. Medicaid programs require you to be poverty stricken to be eligible (get free insurance).. And we aren’t giving people any initiative to try and get off government aid, (not w/ the AFDC checks, food stamps, housing allowances that they receive each month). The state insurance programs where you do pay a premium based on household income have their own guidelines and restrictions too, so it really doesn’t resolve the crisis for those who make more than the lower income families but have no access to affordable health care. Sure, they can go out & buy our own individual insurance policy, but in order to get a decent premium rate, their deductible and coinsurance is going to be sky high! This message has been edited. This is a hot topic with me...Me and my husband are self employed so we are not offered health insurance through our work, BUT we pay our @sses off in insurance every month..For our family of 3 we pay almost $700 a month in insurance. with a deductible of 2000$..RIDICULOUS...when I got pregnant with my little boy, I asked for a quote from Blue Cross for maternity coverage...my premium was $190 a month before I got pregnant and to recieve the maternity coverage was going to cost me $560 a month...Now you tell me that isn't the most SCREWED up thing. I couldn't afford to pay that so I had to sign up with Medicaid and still kept my BCBS policy and it was a lifesaver to me! I count my blessings for that every day! BUT as soon as I had my son, I canceled the Medicaid because I didnt need it anymore. This is one of the main things that will decide my vote for the next president....republican or democrat..i dont care. I just worry about my family!

I agree, Health care here angers me to no end, the calousness, and cold hearted ways these people treat the ill. The biggest corporations are Pharmaceutical companies. Abbott is a monster here. It's got it's own town, called Abbott park. How in the world are these people gonna say ok, we will lower our prices for humanitarian reasons. Yea right, when hell freezes over. and besides Doctors like their Mercedes too much to give those up too. The horror stories I could tell ya that my parents saw and experienced down in Florida. The old are just something to feed of.

Well sliding scale works nicely for the Blue Chip Program. If you make between x and x you pay this amount. Also based on size of household. Not a matter of trying to penalizing anyone, I want to say that everyone works hard but unfortunately some make $8.00 and others make $16.00 so they can not afford to pay the same amount. Not everyone can go to college or are college bound individuals. I am thinking of people that I know in my rural town. They work in a plant, prefabing windows. That is an honest living and thank God thus far it has not be housed out to a county outside of our economy ya know? |

I see what your saying although I think it's unfair to say not everyone can go to college, because anyone can go to college if they really wanted too. There are grants and loans and junior colleges. It's all in how much you want to change your life. There are plenty of people who grew up dirt poor (I lived in Ms for 6 years and witnessed this) lived in trailer parks with No money and put themselves through college to change the cycle they grew up in. Where there's a will there's a way. I myself did not finish college, but that was my choice. It's all about choices. This is America we have options.

I hear you believe me I do and I agree that there are ways to go to college if you want. I am not trying to say that someone finanically can't go to college, there are many factors other than finance. School guidence/counselors deal with this year to year and try to direct students what will be the best for them. Just because someone goes to college, does not mean they will be top earners either. Then on the other hand when someone goes to college there are many jobs they don't want to do or are over qualified for.
Anyhoots I wish there was a way that in America we could get a health care system for adults who are working that are entitled to affordable health care. |
