Bringing you your daily dose of enlightenment ... a 22-year-old Iranian man has been sentenced to death for drinking alcohol. The man was handed the death penalty by a criminal court, which found him guilty of drinking alcohol for the fourth time.

You see, according to Iran, which is ruled by Sharia law, if someone drinks twice, you are punished with lashings. But three strikes and you are out ... executed. In this case, they must have given this man a pass on the third offense. Nonetheless, he is still going to die. He faces the same punishment as murderers and rapists (and homosexuals). All because he drank alcohol.

The only people who are "allowed" to consume alcohol in Iran are a very small minority of Christian Armenians. But they can only do it discreetly and behind closed doors "in order to not offend Islamic sensibilities." Well, at least they're showing some tolerance, right?

Surely this is more of a cultural thing than a Muslim thing, then?
i don't see many British Muslims being executed for drinking...

with a little human touch in holy books,you can lead millions to a life you wish ..none of them are God's words or orders.People who believe in
Islam are divided in groups for years because of the difference in their belief.There is a dark side always trying to terrorize people only with fear and hate and calls it Islam but others live it the opposite.I'm not belong to any religion but I'm
telling all these because I'm living in Turkey and majority is Muslim here and they can drink or dress freely because of the secular system..till now!! unfortunately our goverment working on a plan together with Mr Bush to change our secular system and turn the country into a hell just like it is in Iran now..anyone heard about the "Big middle east project"??

no need to smoke nothin.. just spend 6 months out of USA then you'll understand much better how US foreign affair works..I'm in the middle of this **** and repeating again there's no way you can learn from media what really goes on..our gov and your gov working hand in hand to reshape the area I'm living in you'll see the results soon if you're interested..hard to accept but so true.I very well know to which plan I'm about to lose my freedom..there's a saying here,it goes like this.."it is the same man who tells the rabbit to run and the wolf to catch"
