this person has wrecked more lives than any "dictator", I've ever known. He has caused more death and miseryin the world, that yea, I would compare him to Hitler. He just went about it a different way, the sneaky deceptive way. Lies and deceit is what he will be known for the most. May his carcass rot in hell for his evil ways.

Lowering gas prices, the environment....sounds too much like the Democrat`s game plan during the last election and we all know what happened to those promises; they were swept under the rug as usual. No worries about a Democrat ever giving a tax break. That`s one thing that just doesn`t happen. Smiler

My computer has some sort of pop up blocker and I cannot start new threads. I just thought I'd post this in regards to what she was talking about. Although I think it's a great thing even though I'm not sure we qualify. In the short term it will help out with the huge energy bills and ridiculous gas prices.

Tax rebates at center of unveiled stimulus package
Staff and wire reports

On Thursday President George W. Bush announced an agreement with congressional leaders to craft an economic stimulus package for the U.S. economy. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson (left) looks on.

WASHINGTON | Acting with urgency fueled by recession fears in an election year, Congress and the White House on Thursday unveiled a stimulus package that would give Americans tax rebates.

If approved, a bipartisan political deal forged in late-night talks this week will rush tax rebates of $600 to $1,200 to most tax filers in the spring. Rebates would be even higher for families with children.

The one-time tax rebates are at the center of an agreement to pump about $150 billion into the economy this year and perhaps stave off recession.

“This package will lead to higher consumer spending and increased business investment,” President Bush said.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat; House Republican Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio; and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson worked out the details in negotiations that stretched into Wednesday night.

“This is about putting money in the hands of hard-working Americans,” Pelosi said.

About two-thirds of the tax relief would go out in rebate checks to 117 million families beginning in May. Businesses would get $50 billion in incentives to invest in new plants and equipment.

Individual taxpayers would get up to $600 in rebates. Working couples would get $1,200. Those with children would get an additional $300 per child under the compromise agreement. In a concession to Democrats, 35 million families who make at least $3,000 but don’t pay taxes would get $300 rebates.

The rebates would phase out gradually for individuals whose adjusted gross income exceeds $75,000 and for couples with incomes of more than $150,000. Contributions to IRA and 401(k) retirement accounts and health savings accounts would not count toward the income limit.

Tax rebates are a recurring tool in fiscal policy, even though they have a mixed record in terms of spurring growth. When the economy stumbled in the 1970s, Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter pushed rebates, though Carter’s plan bogged down in the Senate. President Bush also turned to rebates to jump-start the economy during the 2001 recession.

What Americans will do with the money this time remains to be seen.

Some, no doubt, will rush out and spend it, fulfilling the fondest hopes of those looking to juice the economy.

“I’m going to get new clothes — you know, help the economy,” said Leeta Ickes of Wellington, Mo.

Others, though, may choose to hoard the money, pay down debts or plump up their personal investments.

“My reaction would be to get rid of any debt possible,” said Brenda L. Town, an insurance agent in the Kansas City area.

“I know the idea is to put the money back into the economy,” Town said. “However, heading for recession, it just wouldn’t make much sense to splurge. Watching every penny is my plan until we see some major improvements.”

The stimulus bill will go to the House next week, then go on to the Senate, where some Democrats hope to add elements such as extending unemployment benefits for workers whose benefits have run out.

Some Democrats, such as Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, the House Ways and Means Committee chairman, and Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts were unhappy that Pelosi agreed to jettison that proposal in late-stage talks, as well as plans to increase food-stamp payments.

“I do not understand, and cannot accept, the resistance of President Bush and Republican leaders to including an extension of unemployment benefits for those who are without work through no fault of their own,” Rangel said.

Lol, Bush is only doing this to give corporations a huge break. The majority of us who pay the most of the taxes will not get a full tax rebate. In my opinion, rebates don't work. They are short term, we need something long term.
