WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has begun drawing up plans to send troops and equipment to the U.S. border with Mexico, where hundreds of thousands of migrants enter the country illegally each year, a defense official said on Friday. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld discussed border issues at the Pentagon with his Mexican counterpart, Defense Minister Gen. Gerardo Clemente Ricardo Vega. Mexico and the United States share a 2,000-mile border.

JMO, the NG should be sent in rotations. Not the active military. But, as long as it`s being guarded.........FANTASTIC

I agree with sending troops to the border. I just wish it was active duty troops and not the reserves.
Lots of National Guard members have been proudly serving in Iraq. I'm just wondering when they'll actually be able to return home to their real jobs where they actually make a decent wage. I kinda think it would be nice to let the soldiers who have been in Iraq just go home. FRESH troops should go to the border, and the rest should be left alone. Jeepers. |

The National Guard going to Iraq was a travesty, those peeps are ordinary Joes, most just wanted an education and now many have come back sick. Wish there was another alternative to the NG doing this, but we need someone out there, this is getting ridiculous, a **** revolving door.

I have a cousin who is a NG member, and a proffesional businessman. My daughter`s science teacher is NG member who returned from Iraq in December. He`s been a member of the Guard since 2001....he began teaching in 1997. Pay isn`t a major concern for most of these people.

The National Guard can not make arrests because we can not militarize our borders.

You know I was in the Army Nat'l Guard in TX. They can and will make arrest. If the unit/Battalion is an MP or MI unit, they have the authority. And if not, the Pres. can grant then the right or state gov. I know when I was in Europe we did and even stateside when we were covering down for Active duty.

I really hope they are granted this power, but I think it's unlikely cuz people will Bit.ch and whine about it...ooo you're hurting them...ahhhhhh...stay home then,lol
