MINEOLA, N.Y. — Criss Angel's wife says the magic has gone from their marriage and she now wants to make him vanish from her life.

Angel, known for his "Mindfreak" show on the A&E network, subdued his sometimes flashy look for a court hearing Friday. But he flashed a bit of humor during a break, gesturing toward his estranged wife's lawyer and saying, "I can make him disappear."

Angel, whose real name is Christopher Sarantakos, and his wife, Joanne, 37, married five years ago, after a decade of dating, according to her lawyer, Dominic Barbara. But the magician kept his marriage quiet and then deserted his wife as he became famous and hasn't given her "a cent" of his millions, Barbara said.

Angel's lawyer, Elliott Wiener, said Joanne Sarantakos' accusations of mental cruelty and abandonment were unfounded, and "the notion that she's not being supported is simply not accurate."

The 39-year-old punky illusionist dedicated his latest stunt -- a seeming escape from a box encased in concrete and suspended 40 feet above the ground near Manhattan's Time Square on June 5 -- to "Shrek the Third" star Cameron Diaz. But he demurred when asked whether they were dating, telling AP Radio News they were "good friends."

Actually he didn't keep her a secret. Although he does like to keep his private life as private as possible. She even appeared on a few eppies of "Mindfreak". They have been separated for well over a year. Joanne even pettitioned for divorce back in 2006. I find it funny also how she just now goes to court right after Criss signs a 200 million dollar contract with Cirque. Hmmmmmmmmmm.....makes ya think..... Also should show her character since she was quoted as saying she was and I quote "going to rip your heart out" to Criss.

you knew he was married? I don't remember him mentioning that she was his wife, I thought she was the girl friend!!! LOL and yea, I'd rip his heart out too!!!!

oh yeaaaaa!! If I was his wife yea!!! lmfao!! p.s. he had been photographed with Mandy Moore ,and Minnie Driver, whom he was engaged to for a short time, and now Cameron, ahhhhhhhh such a man!! I used to LOVE him, now , well, he is just an abuser.

Just because he has dated a few women since separating from his wife nearly two years ago he is an abuser? Didn't know that a guy going on a few dates = abuser. And no they still aren't legally divorced on paper but in every other way they have been for good while now. Joanne filled for divorce back in 2006. Again I find it very interesting that she waits till he signs a $200 million dollar contract to take him to court. Makes me think it's all about the money for her. Which isn't suprising. But that is fine if you want to think he is an abuser for going on a few dates. We will just have to agree to disagree on this one I guess.

Illusionist CRISS ANGEL is speaking out.

The star of the A&E show "Mindfreak," is in the middle of a divorce from JOANN SARANTAKOS, who alleges that Angel, whose real name is CHRISTOPHER SARANTAKOS, has been dating CAMERON DIAZ and is accusing him of mental cruelty and abandonment.

In a lengthy statement released to ET, Angel says, "It is with great sadness and disappointment that I feel the need to dignify and refute the inaccuracies, blatant lies and misrepresentations that my estranged wife and her attorney made last week in a New York courtroom and continue to make in the press.

Just under 50% of marriages in this country end in divorce and, as most people understand, it is a very difficult thing to endure. To have it played out in the court of public opinion with misleading statements, lies and innuendo is particularly disturbing and disappointing. I would like to set the record straight with the hopes that this process can proceed in privacy.

My estranged wife filed for divorce on May 5, 2006, over fourteen months ago. When she filed her complaint over one year ago, and when she amended it twice she made no mention of alleged adultery or lack of financial support. The fact that they decided to play both of those cards for the first time last week demonstrates their willingness to manufacture stories for their own purposes.

I have always supported JoAnn's every expense in the past prior to her filing for divorce in May of 2006 and continue to do so to this day. She has had unlimited access to credit cards that I pay for. I have paid for her cell phone, her car, her gas, her car insurance, her health insurance, trips she has taken -- even the smallest thing like her cat food. Essentially, I have paid for her every expense. I have also paid for her housing the entire time. In fact, the townhouse where she is currently living and that I am paying for is larger than any place she has ever lived and is also a rent-free home to her brother, the brother who had no problem taking shots at me in the press while he is separated from his wife and small child. JoAnn's claim that I stopped supporting her is simply false. The statement about lack of support by her and her family is both shocking and a prime example that they will stop at nothing to paint me in the press as some sort of monster in order to extort more money out of me.

Her claim that she was my "secret" wife is preposterous and inaccurate. Our marriage was well known to my friends and all of my fans worldwide. She was featured prominently in the first two seasons of my show. She and her family were thanked and credited in every episode and in my recent autobiography.

The fact that they have tried to use Cameron Diaz to accomplish their ends is a sign of their desperation. Here too they have their facts wrong and are attempting to mislead. Anyone that reads the press can figure out the timeline. Cameron and I met in May of this year at the 'VH1 Rock Honors' show, over a year after JoAnn's initial filing. She and I went on four or five dates and there is no current relationship between us. Cameron is a good friend and an amazing person and to defame her and myself and paint her as the reason for my marriage's demise is factually inaccurate, ridiculous and just plain wrong. It seems clear, and very unfortunate to me that JoAnn and her attorney both hope that these false statements will provide my estranged wife, who has also been dating during this time, the financial windfall she is obviously seeking.

I hope that this statement of facts can help clear the air about the myriad of preposterous and salacious accusations that have come out in the past few days and put the process back in the courtroom where it belongs. It has never been my intention to play this out publicly but JoAnn's false public statements have left me no alternative. I am very confident when all of the facts are presented in court that JoAnn's true motive will be revealed for what it is."

Cameron, similarly, denied the allegations. Last week a rep for Cameron told ET: "When Cameron met Criss Angel in May of this year, he had been separated from his wife for over a year and she had already filed a petition to divorce him in 2006. Cameron and Criss went on only four dates over a month ago and have no current relationship. These are meaningless, attention-seeking attempts to unfairly and unnecessarily exploit Cameron's celebrity by trying to involve her in matters she has nothing to do with."

A lawyer for Angel's wife, according to the Associated Press, is aiming to subpoena Diaz in the divorce case.

The couple, married for five years, squared off in court recently, where Sarantakos' lawyer said Angel abandoned his wife when he became famous and has not shared his earnings with her.

Angel's lawyer denied the accusations against his client, saying "the notion that she's not being supported is simply not accurate," reports the AP.

I'll have to agree with you T.X. and I have never even seen the show. I read an article about this in a magazine. L.J. How rude of a statement is that to make about men. Just because you personally don't like men. I don't know what a man ever did to you in your life, but that is a pretty harsh assumptiom to make on "all" men.
His wife was the one who filed in 2006 and him and Cameron only dated in 2007 and are not even dating any longer. The wife seems to me she just wants a chunk of change.

Oh believe me I know he is no angel. He is a human being like the rest of us. I just happen to be on his side on this one. But hey gal friends can have a difference of opinion and stay friends ya know.
