Republican senators shot down a tax the Dems proposed on wind fall profits by oil companies, and they shut down anyone trying to revieve the proposal ...A Republican senator said, it would not bring down prices by punishing the oil companies....and the dance goes on and on. I hope Republicans can remember this next time they vote.

LJ, what good does it to do us to tax them? Really, it would just get passed on to us.

Look at the dang government they are making a bigger profit than the oil compaines on gas.

this is monopoly 101 the big boys in texas are hedgeing their bets by buying the right not to be taxed ,i posted somewhere else that republicans also voted against a tarrif to be lifted to let ethanol in this country ,which would reduce our dependance on oil.all we need now in this money trail is J.R. Q, their profits are in the billions, should we not have them pay for screwing us??? What else can we do. The government is getting their share you can bet on that. EP, you're right, monopolies are everywhere, and they are getting away with it with the governments blessing.

I know the profits they are getting but they would just pass the cost of taxes on to us. I just don't think increasing taxes is the answer.

Well, the only real thing we can do is at an individual level, ween(sp) ourselves off of OIL.

That is what I am trying to say. First, we could cut down on the work week, not ask stores to be open seven days a week, etc. We have to think about now. Drilling I am not opposed to but it will take time to get it.

i feel cutting our selves short is a little to much to ask ,we can't stop two setter,4-8 setter jets wasting fuel ,we can't prevent elitism on any level ,i say car pool ,yea great ,but if you're worried about punishing the big companies ,they only make about .6 cents per gallon what happened to the corn issue as a chemical compound for oil ,or more importantly why is washington pissing on our leg and telling us it's raining over ethanol,the fish rots from the head ,cut off the middleeast,just like prohibition ,if you will ,and watch them go out of business, opium is their only other export ,and china is still a bigger supplier of that ,sicilia,and france.we could shut them down.

I am loving all these tax breaks we are going to get. Just think you will be saved by getting a $1,000 year tax break. Mind you we have the hugest deficit ever and we can afford tax breaks. First I hear Obama is raising taxes on those making over 150,000 a year then you hear its over 250,000. I guess he can't make up his mind.

If the oil companies get taxed they're just going to make oil go higher so there's no point. the **** dems need to let us drill in alaska. **** the animals.
