ok. I need to say something. ...ive been on meds since 15. now, yes many people (not just kids) are being misdiagnosed and prescribed medicine....however, some (the majority) needs this medicine.
the most common is not ADHD...which really is a condition that is not chronic it can be treated to solve i believe. ...as depression, (reg. life anxiety..ie. stress) in time. WITH therapy. NOT just medicine (drugs to some)
BUT THE MAIN REASON I POSTED :

im kinda upset. since everyone in Hollywood and the news and all ...ie TOM CRUISE started this sht. which i believe him about kids. but only kids. because if an adult is prescribed medicine wrong...it because of what they told the doctor their symtptoms are...kids dont know what symptoms of sickness are. ...SOME KIDS NEED MEDS. BECAUSE SOME MENTAL DISEASES ARE A PROVEN SCIENTIFIC FACT THEY EXIST. LIKE MANIC DEPRESSION/BIPOLAR (same thing) IS CHRONIC AND YOU ARE BORN WITH IT. AND THE SYMPTOMS ARE VERY SIMILAR TO DRUG ABUSE. AND VERY HARD TO DIAGNOSE AND SHOULD TAKE alot OF INTENSIVE THERAPY TO DIAGNOSE.
IF I, 36 YR OLD, DONT take my medicine... slowly, i spiril down to where i am immobilized and my thoughts are very irrational and delusional. IM MAD AT TOM CRUISE AGAIN. because i was off my medicine for about 2 months (meaning trying not to take it) to see how i felt WHICH IS A CLASSIC SYMPTOM OF MANIC DEPRESSION...when you feel better you forget your sick and go off meds. WELL MR TOM CRUISE....i finally got back on my meds since i wanted to see...and i waited until i went through the withdrawl period (coz i stopped them abruptly to see) (which is more dangerous to do than take them i could of died from that alone) AND WITHIN 3 weeks i got to the point i couldnt get out of bed and made rash decisions...looked sick. ...had a totally different mind set on life ....THEN i get my meds again ...and in a 24 hour period IM BACK TO NORMAL. NORMAL MEANING NO SYMPTOMS OF SICKNESS. SO THANKS TOM CRUISE FOR LETTING ME THINK IM NOT SICK AND I CHOSE TO STOP THE MEDS BECAUSE OF YOUR UPROAR AND GOT REALLY SICK FOR A COUPLE WEEKS. (because it takes atleast 1 week to get all meds out of system and i felt worse even after withdrawl and I TOOK A DRUG (BLOOD)TEST TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OUT OF SYSTEM.....SO ...YES TOM YOU NEED TO STOP SAYING WHAT YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT BECAUSE PEOPLE LOOK UP TO YOU (not me btw) however, it was put in my mind "maybe i dont need my medicine" WHICH IS A CLASSIC SYMPTOM OF MANIC DEPRESSION/BIPOLAR....and some ADULTS use that disease to get narcotics..... since drug abuse and bipolar have same symptoms. ...
jmo ....LISA IS TOTALLY CORRECT IN SAYING NOT TO DRUG CHILDREN. BUT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT CHILDREN. THEY DONT HAVE A CHOICE. ADULTS DO!!!!AND ADULTS KNOW HOW THEY FEEL AND WHY. AND KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO GET A DRUG (narcotic) ...IF YOUR AN ADULT ...some children need it for serious mental disease that is scientifically proven for century's not just since TOM CRUISE has been alive!!!!!!!!!!!! ....SOME PARENTS DO IT TO THE CHILD ...take them to doc to calm normal hyperness (because they know how to manipulate!!!!!!!!!!!!!)....BUT DOCTORS DONT DO THAT ...MAYBE A HANDFUL OF QUACKS ...and the PARENTS are the ones telling the doctor the symptoms NOT the child WHEN the child isnt in intense therapy. ...Adults tell symptoms for children and a doctor should know to match those up in therapy not just prescribe them outright because of what the parents say... ....SO TOM SHUT THE F UP ...because your dam speach made me think I didnt need medicine. ...well.. THANK GOD IVE HAD ENOUGH THERAPY NOT TO KILL MYSELF LAST WEEK ..because I FELT PHYSICALLY TOO TIRED TO EVEN GO ON WITH LIFE ...BECAUSE I DIDNT TAKE MY MEDS CORRECTLY FOR 2 MONTH PERIOD. SO SHUUUUUUUUUUUT UP.

I 100% agree with you Majik. As a child I was diacnosed with ADHD. I was put on ritalin. Before I was put on it I had a really really difficult time in school. I could not make good grades. Sometimes not even average grades. Once I was put on ritalin I started having a much easier time in school and i started making A&B's. I agree that possibly too many children are being forced on these drugs and that it is a full blown bussiness to diagnose and then drug children. I do know that it worked for me. I was extremely P I S S E D at Tom Cruise when he started bashing Brooke Sheilds about her taking meds for post-partum deppression. I feel that unless he grows a uterrus(sp) and delivers a child and get post-partum depression he needs to keep his trap shut! I totally think he is a terriffic actor but he is has a big A S S chip on his shoulders that needs to be knocked off a bit.

thank you for posting. ...as far as illegal drugs...yes ive had problems with those too ...and weed is a mind altering drug...WHICH thats a whole nother story. if you have problems with drug abuse and something like manic depression ITS EVEN HARDER TO DIAGNOSE. thats all i want to say about that because weed and medication yes are both "drugs" however, im talking about prescribed medicine you know ....I FEEL FINE NOW!! personally, i would never put my kids on ritalin, or any other ADHD drug out there. yes it may help them, but also, as a parent, you should be able to help them understand what they can work on, and work with them as well.

i may have ADD/ADHD, as told by many teachers and close friends, but i choose not to get on medication. i know where the line is, and if i cross it, i tell myself to settle down. it's not easy, but you gotta live to be YOU!

Good for you. i feel each person has the right to make his or her decision and I commend you for yours. I believe that some people it can help and some people it can hurt. It really depends on the person i think. i just happen to be one of the people it helped.

well some people really are sick i think TOM CRUISE thinks that EVERYONE can cure themselves through Scientology and ...i know about that too...YES. ...one who takes the legal medicine and is using illegal drugs at the same time ..the irrational behavior is because of the drugs...not neccessarily the prescription (AND IM INCLUDING ALCOHOL AS A DRUG ...AND NOT ALL MENTAL SICKNESS IS CHRONIC...AND THERE ARE MANY LEVELS OF THE DEGREE OF THE MENTAL SICKNESS. ...REGULAR DEPRESSION CAN BE TREATED AND CURED. Some can help theirself..some need religion, some need drugs,some need legal drugs, some need sobriety , some need humility....some need humanity, some need Christianity or anything that makes them happy. *

ME TOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not to trash Tom or anything ...but when he claimed to know everything about psychiatry and i doubt he has time between Katie , making movies and promoting himself to study centuries of psychiatry is all. ...and its dangerous of him to think he knows all ...becoz for example in my case. ...i started getting mad at psychiatry myself and THAT IS DANGEROUS FOR ME AND OTHERS THAT SUFFER FROM A DISEASE OR DISORDER. ...

I'm happy the medicine has worked for you majik, I sincerely am. Personally though I dont think it always works. One of my brothers was put on ritalin and got really really sick he wouldnt eat and he was always sleeping, it got really bad until I told him to stop taking them and then eventually my family agreed with me, Thank God. Dont get me wrong though it effects everyone in a different way but I havent personally seen any positives come out of it. It's a good topic to address though and again I'm happy your doing better....
