dumba.ss at Fox makes butt outta himself...lol

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Sen. Barack Obama said Sunday he was not greatly offended by the Fox News chief's word play about his name that led Nevada Democrats to cancel a presidential debate hosted with the network.

Fox's Roger Ailes made a remark last week about the similarities between the Illinois senator's name and al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden.

"I didn't take great offense at the joke," Obama said in an Associated Press interview while campaigning in Iowa. "I have been called worse."

At a Radio & Television News Directors Association Foundation event in Washington on Thursday, Ailes said, "And it is true that Barack Obama is on the move. I don't know if it's true that President Bush called (Pakistani President Pervez) Musharraf and said, 'Why can't we catch this guy?"' according to a transcript provided by Fox.

Bin Laden is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan or the country's lawless border region with Pakistan.

The Nevada Democratic Party announced Friday it had canceled an August debate, to be co-hosted by Fox News Channel, and cited Ailes' comment.

Ailes went too far, the state's Democratic Party chairman, Tom Collins, and Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., wrote Fox News. "We cannot, as good Democrats, put our party in a position to defend such comments."

Nevada Democrats already were under criticism by MoveOn.org Civic Action, a network of liberal activists, for the partnership with Fox, which the group called "a mouthpiece for the Republican party."

In response, Fox News vice president David Rhodes said, "News organizations will want to think twice before getting involved in the Nevada Democratic caucus which appears to be controlled by radical, fringe, out-of-state interest groups."

In the AP interview at a coffee shop on the second day of a weekend visit to Iowa, Obama said he has been surprised at how quickly the intensity of the presidential race has picked up. He brushed aside media reports on issues from stock trades to parking tickets.

"You know it's to be expected," Obama said. "I was surprised that my parking tickets from 20 years ago got so much attention. But this is part of the vetting process when you're running for the most powerful position on earth, and it's to be expected that things get magnified."

Obama said he was confident he would withstand scrutiny.

"Fortunately, I feel very comfortable about how I've conducted my life, and I think I will survive the vetting process with flying colors," he said.

If the worst they can do is make fun of his name, then I think Obama's doing pretty good, LOL.

They just used this incident as an excuse to get out of being questioned on FOX. The smell of fear is a powerful thing.

Not appearing on FOX is a bad choice. FOX is the highest rated news program, outranking all cable news networks (yes, that includes CNN) and also outranking NBC,CBS and ABC.

Unique Dog, you just crack me up. You should be a PR person with how good you are at spinning things.

I think it's just a smart move. The people that watch Fox are mostly conservatives who won't give Obama a chance anyway. They just handed him a good reason to not waste his time on them.

Being on the hightest rated news network is not "wasting his time." If he really wants to serve the people of this country, then he needs to take the opportunity to reach out to the majority.

Talking to a brick wall is a waste of time. People who watch Fox, which clearly has a conservative slant, are not people who are going to be open minded to Obama. Just like it would be a waste of time to try to convince the Pope that same-sex marriage and abortion are okay.

You have to know your audience and pick your battles. Besides, Obama can reach out to people in other ways besides Fox.

The same thing can be said of CNN. CNN clearly has a democratic and liberal biase.
Why then, should conservatives appear on CNN? Because the candidates, whether they are republican or democrat should reach out to ALL the people. Not just those who agree with their politics.

If they firmly believe in their beliefs then they should get out there and stand up for them, fight for their beliefs.

I'm a conservative and I'm very interested in Obama, and I watch Fox and CNN so how does that work?

If you watch Fox and CNN then you can catch him on CNN and he loses nothing by boycotting Fox.

If Conservatives want to appear on CNN, that is their perogative, but I seriously doubt Obabma turning down fox as a result of this is going to hurt him in the long run. Just as a conservative skipping an interview on CNN and doing it on Fox won't hurt them.

And as I said previously, there are other ways to reach out to people than on Fox news. The internet for example is a great way to reach many people- and the people who ARE willing to give you a chance can find you there without having to waste your breath on the others Smiler
