John Stossel made a speech at the Heartland Institute's 2008 International Conference on Climate Change. He told the audience that the media is "socialist" and this will never change. He says, "The socialist media – maybe they will just never get it ... Their world view is anti-capitalist. [Ludwig] von Mises wrote about it in 1972 and it's just very hard to change. I would also argue the scientific community is as well."

Stossel has been trying to figure out what fuels this general hatred of capitalism. He's constantly trying to figure out why people hate business. He narrows it down to a few reasons. The first is wealth envy. The other is that people view business as, what he describes as, a zero-sum game. In other words, if I make a profit off of you, you lose the game. If you've been paying attention you've noticed the emerging opinion trend that profits are OK ... just so long as you don't earn a profit on something that someone else actually NEEDS. This, needless to say, is an ignorant way to think, but that seems to be the norm. Remember ... government education.

Stossel also says that it is this kind of ignorance that makes people hate business and he believes it is this same ignorance that is fueling the global warming movement. Economic ignorance makes people unaware of how successful capitalist economy has been ... because they ignore the track record and just believe what they want to believe because they envy the rich. The same goes for these warmers. Can you really say that in the big picture, man is causing "global warming?" True scientific evidence doesn't back up the premise ... but we love the global warming cause anyway. Why? Because it gives people a justification for their hatred of and attacks on big business, especially the oil companies. In the end it all leads back to wealth envy.

Wealth envy is behind a great deal of environmentalism ... even right down to people who whine about airport noise.
